FM-1849-17 Pipe Friction Apparatus

The unit is used to examine pipe friction losses in laminar and turbulent flow. The pipe section used has a well defined inside diameter and a length .The pressure losses are measured in laminar flow utilizing a water manometer. The static pressure difference is indicated on manometer. In turbulent flow the pressure difference is measured with a water filled manometer.

A level tank is provided to generate the laminar flow. A specific scheme of valves ensures the direction and flow rate can be regulated. The water is fed directly from the water main into the pipe section.
