Experiments

Water Electrolysis is a process where,

  • Water is brought to the bipolar plates and flow into the channels of the plate
  • At contact with proton exchange membrane of the electrodes, the water is split into protons H+ and O2-
  • The proton O2- splits off two electrons e–, which combine with another to form oxygen.
  • The electrons travel through the circuit to the cathode. H+ passes through the proton membrane to the cathode.
  • Protons H+ combine with electrons at the cathode to form dihydrogen. Oxygen flows from the anode. Hydrogen flows from the cathode

Proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis is a method for hydrogen production in most efficient and easy way. These days’ renewable energy sources are growing rapidly to reduce the carbon footprint, PEM electrolysis is one of the clean hydrogen generation
processes utilizing renewable energies from SOLAR, WIND and others renewable sources.

In the field of renewable energy, the storage of the energy is one of the major components which mostly use batteries, but batteries are not environment friendly and also require a lot of cost. An alternate way to store the energy is to do via electrolysis of water and separate the Hydrogen from water and store in pressure vessels which lately can us in PEM Fuel cell to regenerate electricity later when needed. Another major use of this technology is vehicles. This trainer consists of the Solar Powered PEM Electrolyzer with the feature of measurement & control of different variable during the generation of Hydrogen in the water electrolysis process. This equipment is designed for the training of students to understand how water electrolysis works and also equipped with high safety standards which is required during the H2 production and safety.
